Newborn Photography

Newborn photography is a specialised industry and requires invested training. I’m proud to have done different newborn training over the years to make sure your baby is in safe hands. The main focus of the session is your baby; minimal props are used and when they are, baby is the first thing you’ll see.

I aim for your session to be within 2 weeks of birth. Of course if this is after due to medical problems or similar, don’t worry. Newborns tend to be most sleepy at this time but can be up to 4 weeks.
If this time goes over, I like to advise you on how baby may be more awake and may not be able to be put into the poses as easy, or at all. This is due to baby being more awake and bones hardening. This is the reason we prefer to take the images at such a young age.

  • What do I need to bring to a session?
Nothing really, except you & your gorgeous little family! I have a variety of handmade props, which will incorporate different themes and colours for me to create a variety of different looks. Most newborn photographs are done using my props or nude but if you want to bring a particular outfit, or comforter you would like me to photograph, thats cool with me!
  • What if my baby cries or won’t sleep at the session?
It is very possible that your baby will cry at some point in the session. This is because they are babies and babies do cry when they are tired or hungry. I will always take my time to settle baby to ensure they are in a deep settled sleep. It is very normal for the first hour of the session to involve settling the baby. Some babies sleep within 2 minutes, others can take a little longer.
  • How long with the session last?
Newborn sessions can be long; I allocate 2-4 hours for each newborn session, this allows time for feeding, changing, settling etc. Family sessions are usually around an hour depending on your little ones. Of course every session is different and some are quicker than others. The little ones normally tell us when they've had enough!!
